USAID ProParque is an economic growth and natural resources project that seeks to realign Honduras’ economic and social development trajectory with the sound management of its rich natural resource base. Its main objective is to achieve sustainable economic growth, while focusing on protected areas of Honduras and its communities. This will be achieved by working simultaneously on three different areas: biodiversity and natural resource management (NRM), rural enterprise growth, and climate change/natural disaster risk reduction (DRR).

With an anticipated duration of 5 years, USAID ProParque’s goal by 2015 is to have a reformed, restructured, and effective National Protected Areas System (SINAPH) which will be a source of sustainable and equitable economic growth opportunities for communities. Through direct and indirect economic opportunities such as tourism, forestry/agroforestry, and ecosystem services, these communities will be able to transition into sustainable market- based and conservation-friendly livelihoods that value and  protect the natural resource.
